SIGNS BY DESIGN can provide a complete audit of your current signage program and make recommendations, cost estimates and schedules for needed repairs, replacements or new signage. We will address your signage needs for the three major types of signage:

• Identification signs identify your business. Examples are monument signs, channel letters, lighted signs, and awning signs.
• Directional signs direct people to, or within, your business. Examples are entrance signs, directories, parking signs, room numbers, and ADA signage (American Disabilities Act).

Every business and public facility where the general public has access is subject to federal regulations regarding disabled persons. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), businesses and organizations with public access must make their facilities accessible and are required to offer proper signage to ensure the disabled can clearly understand how to access the building. The law is very specific in its ADA requirements:

• Existing facilities, under Title III of the ADA, are required to remove physical and communication barriers that inhibit the free participation of individuals with disabilities in the economic life of this country.
• Alterations to existing facilities after January 26, 1992, must have accessible entrance, path of travel to the altered area, restrooms for each sex or unisex, telephones (TDD) and drinking fountains to the maximum extent feasible. The path of travel to the altered space should be made accessible to the extent that it does not incur “disproportionate” costs—costs exceeding 20% of the original alteration.
• New Construction of public accommodations or commercial facilities must be “readily accessible and usable by” the disabled if the facility is first occupied after January 23, 1993, assuming the last official permission (building permit, etc.) was issued after January 26, 1992. The standard of compliance is highest for new construction and is not limited by “disproportionate cost” or “readily achievable” regulations.

ADA guidelines are minimum guidelines, not absolute rules. Although they are meant to be followed and taken seriously, the government is clear about the fact that the goal is accessibility. Therefore, alternate technologies and approaches are possible if they enhance accessibility. In the case of ADA signage, quality enhances accessibility. Poor quality ADA signage is usually not acceptable even if it follows the guidelines to the letter. SIGNS BY DESIGN offers you a professional signage package of the highest quality.

This means that you, the customer, know exactly what is being produced, when it will be delivered and how much it will cost.

If circumstances or the scope of the project change, we will notify you immediately and propose mid-course budget adjustments. If the agreed upon budget turns out to be inadequate due to project changes, we will bring it to your attention, ensuring that we set priorities and stay within your budget.
